Stage 4 · Take It Further

Where the Degree Leads

Career is for the last year and the first job. It opens with career paths: the jobs a life science degree leads to, each with what you do, the skills it asks, how people get in, what it pays in the US and the UK, and the quizzes to practise for it. Scholarships, funded positions, a CV builder and a portfolio follow.

Questions About Career

The long read on where a biology degree leads, and the answers to what people ask about Career.

What is the Career stage?

Career is the fourth stage of biofideX, for the last year of the degree and the first job. Where a life science degree leads: each career with what you do, the skills, the way in and the pay. Scholarships and positions follow. In plain words: the career paths a life science degree leads to, scholarships and funded positions, a CV builder, and a portfolio page you can share.

What do the career paths tell me?

Each of the 55 career paths says what the job is, what you do day to day, the skills it asks, where people work, how they get in (the degrees, the steps, and any register or licence), and what it pays: the US median from O*NET OnLine and the UK starting and experienced salary from the National Careers Service, each naming the occupation it was published for. Each path also lists the quizzes and tools on biofideX that help you prepare, and the careers next to it.

What is next in Career?

Career opened with career paths. Scholarships come next, with a calendar of the deadlines; then funded positions, a CV builder and a portfolio. We would rather open each one right than early, so there are no dates. For the long view of what a biology degree leads to, read our article on what you can do with a biology degree.

Will Career be free?

Everything that is free today stays free. The career paths are free in full, and the rest of Career will have a free part from the day each opens: browsing scholarships and positions, one CV template and your portfolio. When Plus opens, it adds depth inside each stage; in Career that means alerts for new positions, a reminder before each scholarship deadline, every CV template, and a custom link and a PDF for your portfolio. Nothing that is free today will ever go behind a paywall.
