Botany
Dive into the world of plants. Our botany quizzes test your understanding of plant structure, photosynthesis, transport, hormones, and the fascinating life cycles that define the plant kingdom. See how much you've learned.
Chloroplasts
Chloroplast structure, photosynthetic pigments, the sites of photosynthesis and the endosymbiotic origin of chloroplasts.
Parts of a Flower
Flower parts and their jobs, pollination, fertilization, and how flowers form fruits and seeds.
Alternation of Generations
Understand the life cycles of mosses, ferns, and angiosperms.
Photosynthesis
The light-dependent and light-independent (Calvin cycle) reactions.
Plant Structure
Identify parts of a flower, leaf, stem, and root.
Plant Transport
How water (xylem) and sugars (phloem) move through a plant.
Dictionary
Key Botany Terms
Plain definitions, with how to say each word and where it comes from.
- Alternation of generations
Alternation of generations is a life cycle in which a multicellular haploid gametophyte and a multicellular diploid sporophyte produce each other in turn.
- Angiosperm
An angiosperm is a flowering plant, a seed plant whose ovules develop inside an ovary that ripens into a fruit enclosing the seeds.
- Auxin
Auxin is a plant hormone, chiefly indole-3-acetic acid, that controls cell elongation, bending toward light and the overall shape of a plant.
- Cellulose
Cellulose is a strong, unbranched polysaccharide of glucose units joined by beta 1-4 bonds and the main structural material of plant cell walls.
- Chlorophyll
Chlorophyll is the green pigment in plants, algae and cyanobacteria that absorbs light energy to drive photosynthesis.
- Germination
In botany, germination is the restart of growth by a seed's embryo, from the first uptake of water until the young root breaks out of the seed coat.

- Photosynthesis diagram
How a chloroplast turns light, water and carbon dioxide into sugar and oxygen: the light-dependent reactions and the Calvin cycle.
- Plant Cell diagram
The parts of a plant cell and what each does: the cell wall, chloroplasts, the central vacuole, the nucleus, the ER and more.
